Rebecca McMillan will be aiming for international glory on the Channel island of Guernsey next week.

The 31-year-old life member of the St Andrews club in Thirlmere Road, Weston, is England women’s representative in the 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships. She qualified for the event by winning the English women’s indoor singles championship in 2023.

Thirty countries will be competing  in the championships, which start on Sunday. McMillan, who made her England debut recently at the British Isles Indoor Championships, will be competing in the women’s singles and also the mixed pairs, where she will partner the England men’s champion Harry Goodwin from Kent.

With partner Tim Wyatt and daughter Maisie, she will be catching the Poole-Guernsey ferry on Saturday and will be playing twice a day in a group that includes Hong Kong and Namibia.

The defending women’s champion is Scot Julie Forrest, well known from her appearances in the World Championships at Potters and there are several other big-name competitors.
